Itinerary
DAY 1
ARRIVAL AT MARRAKESH
Welcome to Marrakesh!
Today we’ll meet you at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation. Depending on your time of arrival, we suggest you enjoy a little walk along the beautiful Jemaa El-Fnaa Square, the city’s cultural heartbeat. Here you can see the Marrakesh souk, a traditional market, where you can see exotic colors, smells, and foods that will make you eager for the days to come.
DAY 2
MARRAKESH TO IMLIL
A short distance separates us from the small Berber capital of the High Atlas.
Imlil will welcome us with its hustle and bustle of trekkers and mountaineers from all over the world, who come here to undertake the mountains. The small villages that settle in the valley have a beautiful imprint, with the characteristic flat roof adobe houses. Notice the freshness of the orchards, the fruit trees, the fragrant fig-trees, the large walnuts, the small craft shops, the smoky aromas that come out of the coffee shops, the smell of spices, barbecues, and green tea. Everything indicates that we are already in the Atlas. We have the day for “acclimatization” and introduction to the area. Starting with a trip to the Collado Ikkis from where we will have some spectacular views of the massif so that we can make our return to Imlil early in the afternoon. Use the rest of the afternoon for a nice walk around the town and prepare the equipment for tomorrow.
DAY 3
IMLIL TO TOUBKAL
The beginning of the track!
Before leaving, we will have a meeting with the team of muleteers and the cook.. The journey begins through beautiful paths along the terraces and fruit crops with their beautiful and large walnut trees (very characteristic of the High Atlas). As we head-on, we will slowly ascend leaving behind the valley as we enter the High Arund. Here, we will cross small Berber villages and after about three hours of walking, we will reach the Marabout of Sidi Chamarouch. Tomb of a saint of Islam and a place of pilgrimage. Here, the Around River comes down with force and in some nearby streams, we will be able to refresh ourselves. We continue our journey now by doing some loops and overcoming a steep slope to face the high valley of Around. We will begin to see the great colossi: Toubkal, Ouanokrin, Afella, Timesguida… The fresh air of the mountain will relieve us in our climb and the nearby fountains will encourage us… Finally, time for rest and refreshment. Have a good mint tea and prepare for dinner. Afterwards, an impressive starry sky will be a good reason for the gathering before going to sleep.
DAY 4
TOUBKAL’S PEAK
Today we go to the peak.
We will get up very early with time for a quick breakfast, and it is time to depart to the top! We will ascend to the highest peak in Northern Africa. As soon as we leave the Refuge, we will cross a small stream, and we will face the first strong ramps. We will ascend around a waterfall that can be frozen, and after a few steep slopes, the path will lean, and the terrain will soften. From here, we move between large blocks of stones as we gain height in our search for the summit. As we reach the pass that divides the two summits of Toubkal, we turn to our left to a land devoid of snow and following an easy edge until reaching the outskirts of the summit. The characteristic vertex of the summit will welcome us to the highest peak in North Africa. Congratulations, you have made it! First-class panorama! To the south, the parched lands of the Anti Atlas, the Djebel Siroua, and the prelude to the Sahara. After, we will go back down to the Refuge to replenishing forces.
DAY 5
MARRAKESH
Returning to Marrakesh.
Today we will descend from the Refuge Toubkal to Imlil. Once we arrive in Imlil, there will be a transfer taking you to Marrakesh. We will have the rest of the day to enjoy one of the most beautiful cities in Africa. For more than two centuries, this Berber city at the crossroads between the Sahara, the Atlas, and the Anti Atlas was the center of a great empire. Zocos, medina, palm groves, palaces, gardens, and mosques form one of the most fascinating sets that a traveler can find. The fall of the evening is quite a spectacle, as the people take to the streets to enjoy the coolness. The Plaza de la Djemma el Fna is full of color, and the sensual colors of the sunset reflect harmony in the urban landscape.
