The M’Goun Massif is a spectacular spine of mountain ridges and sculpted valleys in the High Atlas that are located 100 miles East of Marrakesh. It is the second-highest mountain in Northern Africa, following the Jebel Toubkal. This trekking experience will take us over and through the beautiful landscape of the M’Goun Mountains UNESCO Global Geopark, where the geological history of the territory fits into the geological evolution of the central High Atlas. The variety of natural landscapes here is exceptional, and they alternate between jagged mountain crests, snow-capped peaks, plains, plateaus, gorges, and valleys. It will be a trip to deep Morocco, where you will have the opportunity to discover the traditional lifestyle, and culture, and have a taste of the delicious local gastronomy!

DAY 1
ARRIVAL AT MARRAKESH
Welcome to Marrakesh!
Today we’ll meet you at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation. Depending on your time of arrival, we suggest you enjoy a little walk along the beautiful Jemaa El-Fnaa Square, the city’s cultural heartbeat. Here you can see the Marrakesh souk, a traditional market, where you can see exotic colors, smells, and foods that will make you eager for the days to come.

DAY 2
AGOUTI TO IKISS
Time to embark on our journey through Morocco.
After breakfast, it’s time to leave Marrakesh and embark on our journey through Morocco. We will meet our team (Cook and Muleteers) at the small Berber village of Agouti (1.850 m), and here begins our trekking through the M’Goun Mountains, leaving behind the happy valley. Our mule team will lead us to Ikiss (2.250 m), through the fields and pastoral area, where you can admire sumptuous landscapes. We will pass through typical villages where you can overlook their magnificent adobe architecture.

DAY 3
IKISS TO TARKEDITE
A superb hiking awaits!
After breakfast to gain strength for the following five hours, we start our trekking through the ascent of the Oumskig pass (2.909 m) and the very steep Aghouwri pass (3.400 m), which provides magnificent views across the surrounding area (M’goun Mountains). We then follow a steep, zigzag path down to the Tarkeddid Plateau (2.900 m), where we spend the night. It will be a short day, but quite a demanding one.

DAY 4
TARKEDITE TO OULILIMT
Climbing the most famous mountains in North Africa.
Following an early breakfast, we will climb one of the most famous mountains in North Africa (4.068 m). From here, we’ll have a stunning view over the Ait Bougmez Valley. The climb is not technically difficult, especially for those with the habit of walking and resistant to high altitudes. After an exceptional career, we reach the highest point, where we can admire a lovely view of the massif central High Atlas, Jbel Saghro, and the Rose Valley. Then, we will descend towards Oumlilmt for an overnight stay.

DAY 5
OULLIMT TO TIGHREMT N’AIT AHMED
Throughout the Oulilimt valley!
After a tough day, we’ll have a chance to relax with an easy trek through the Oulilmt Valley. Following the mule track, you’ll discover some amazing cliff dwellings and meet the shepherd Berber nomads. The trek finishes at Teghremt N’Ait Ahmed (2.235 m), where we’ll stay overnight.

DAY 6
TIGHREMT N’AIT AHMED TO RBAT
The ascending to Tizi N’Ait Imi
After a delicious breakfast, it’s time to continue our trekking through the M’Goun Mountains. We will set off from Tighremt N’Ait and follow the river Amounguer N’Saln, then we will ascend Tizi N’Ait Imi (2.900 m), from where you can admire the Happy Valley and M’Goun. On the way to the village of Ibaqlliwn, you will have the opportunity to see impressive dinosaur prints in the limestone that in other regions of the world would attract both tourists and researchers. The trip continues to Rbat (1.935 m), where we stay overnight.

RBAT TO AGOUTI
We have amazing plans for today!
We start our last hike day descending until the Ait Bougmez valley, considered to be one of the most beautiful valleys in the high Atlas. Its culture and traditional ways of life remain some of Morocco’s best-kept secrets. By the way, you will pass by some villages where, once again, you can admire the beautiful adobe architecture. By the end of the day, we will arrive at Agouti, where we stay overnight.

AGOUTI TO MARRAKESH
It’s time to return to the busy and bustling city of Marrakesh.
After these incredible hiking days, it’s time to return to the busy and bustling city of Marrakesh. Among the smells and the colors so traditional of this culture, it is in Jemaa el-Fna Souk that we feel the true energy of this city! Remember, haggling is the secret of business!

DEPARTURE
This is it!
Depending on the time of your flight, you’ll still have time in the morning to visit the city, and maybe have your last drink of flavored tea or do some last-minute shopping in the big markets. Our guide will pick you up at the hotel and transfer you to Marrakesh’s Airport, where we say our goodbyes, and we hope you had a wonderful time. It has been a great adventure, and we will love for you to come and discover more of Morocco’s Nature Trails.
